Welcome Beauty from Inner Wellness Starting the New Year usually prompts us to renew our commitments to the important aspects our lives. Be it career, family, health, social, spiritual, we strive to balance our priorities toward achieving happiness and contentment. As we look back, we ponder on our success and misgivings to the people around us and more importantly to ourselves. Now, would be the perfect time to once again revive our resolution to better take care of ourselves so there will be more to give to others. At my medical spa, the Zen Institute, we focus on one’s life journey to bring out the best OF you with medical science, life coaching and rejuvenating treatments. My colorful experience bought me valuable life lessons and helped me discover my passion in achieving aesthetics and inner well-being by coaxing natural body processes and behavioral modifications. My humble journey started with my mother’s illness. Adela Salayo-Torres was a loving mom and dedicated educator being the primary school principal for 20 years in Sampaloc, Quezon. For many years, she suffered from iatrogenic illness due to prolonged exposure to a pill prescribed to address her seizure disorder. Her medication had caused her cerebellum to shrink that lead to early ageing. Moreover, her frail body bore blisters that she endured in discomfort. Being young and idealistic, I was inspired to become a doctor and promised to treat her. After getting my diploma from UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, my goal then was to find immediate relief to my mother’s dermatological condition even when I was practicing general medicine. As I began to sample cream medications for my mother’s blisters, I grew interested in dermatology and this is when I discovered my passion for aesthetics. During my practice in a fitness center, my concept of fitness, wellness and beauty fused to become the philosophy behind the Zen Institute. Over the years, I have performed surgical procedures for aesthetic purposes like lipo-suction. INCH-loss was instant but my patients would be back three months after with added pounds AND INCHES. These cases proved to me that I was not really addressing their concerns. This prompted me to seek further studies and sought training in aesthetic medicine from abroad and with the country’s leading dermatologists. Zen embodies the Buddhist concept of “healing as wholeness” that combines practice of awareness and meditation to restore energy, build endurance, and fill our lives with compassion and happiness. Guided by this philosophy, we observe a holistic approach that begins with focusing on one’s needs and individuality. We put into practice love for one’s self. Once this positive energy radiates from within, you embrace your true self and this translates to true beauty. The Zen Institute is a medical spa that primarily offers non-INVASIVE, non-surgical facial contouring and body sculpting. Aside from weight-management, we do spot reduction of stubborn fat to complement the figures of clients after they have lost weight. With very highly specialized machines, we also carry out face lifting, anti-ageing treatments and procedures. Since most skin problems I have encountered are stress-induced, our center provides a sanctuary for those in need of relaxation and pampering thru our services--body spa, facial spa and massages. Once inside The Zen Institute, our highly-trained team will assist you to begin your own journey to health, wellness and beauty with no traumatic shortcuts. If need be, I will personally coach you to a more healthy lifestyle. Who knows? You, too, can attain your personal goals without even undergoing any treatment or procedures at all.
